Rev. L. Wayne States went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 19th, 2009. He had been in declining health for some time.

Rev. Wayne States was not just a man noted for his beautiful singing voice, or his eloquence in the pulpit, but he was known as a man who loved people, and had a passion for souls!  

Our Conference has been blessed beyond measure to have had Bro. & Sis. States as a part of our group!
If you have been a Christian very long, I'm sure you will be able to point to certain people along your journey who have made a difference in your walk with Christ. No matter if it was at your Church, Bible College, or at Camp Meeting. . . these people have helped propel you to what you are today!

LaVena E. Gibson, age 94, of Shoals, died on Sunday, September 19, 2010, at the Loogootee Nursing Center. 

Surviving children include Reverend Keith Gibson, of Shoals; Russell Gibson, of Wichita, Kansas; Marjorie Scannell, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Judith Gellerman, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mary Jackson, of Coweta, Oklahoma; and Joel Gibson, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, and an infant daughter, Rebecca Lynn. 

LaVena was a faithful helpmeet to her minister husband. For the past sixteen years, she made her home with her son, Keith, and his wife, Neoma, of Shoals. 

Visitation was set for Tuesday, September 21st, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home, in Shoals. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 22nd, at 11:00 am, at the Weisbach Community Church, where she regularly attended. Rev. James Southerland, Rev. John Ziegler, and Rev. Eugene Gray officiated.  
Rev. L. Wayne States, 87, of Shirley, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 19, 2009 in Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle, Indiana.

He was born April 13, 1922 in Hartman, Colorado, a son of the late Henry W. and Lelia Belle (Hopkins) States.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II. On April 5, 1942 he married Juanita Ellen Quinn in Colorado Springs, Colorado and began a ministry that would span many decades. He and Juanita pastored congregations in Otis, Colorado; Nampa, Idaho; Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; Pasadena, California; Phoenix, Arizona; Penns Creek, PA; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Jupiter, Florida. Together they traveled many years in evangelistic ministry across the United States until retiring to Shirley a few years ago. He served the Lord in many different roles: song evangelist, pastor, district superintendent, assistant general superintendent, and evangelist. For the past several years he has been an ordained minister with the Pilgrim Holiness Church.
